Kiya received her Bachelor’s in psychology and Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and is a licensed PLPC in Missouri. She has a background in providing trauma-informed care, intake assessments, individual, and group therapy to people experiencing PTSD, anxiety, and depression from her internship at Safe Connections, and providing crisis counseling to people experiencing mental health crises as a volunteer with Crisis TextLine.
She is passionate about providing evidence-based practices for eating disorders in an environment that is warm, collaborative, trauma-informed, and multiculturally competent. In individual therapy, she utilizes a person-centered and cognitive-behavioral approach, while also pulling from dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, and relapse prevention. Kiya utilizes these approaches to assist patients increasing their self-awareness of the factors that are maintaining their eating disorder, and what they can do to address these roadblocks for their recovery.
