Julie Rami, M.A.Ed., B.S. Spec. Ed.
Julie has her Bachelor of Science in Special Education from Eastern Illinois University and her Masters of Art in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Missouri. She has certificates in Elementary Education(1-6), Special Reading(K-12), Learning Disabled(K-12), Mild/Moderate Mentally Handicapped(K-12), and Mild/Moderate Behavior Disordered (K-12). She taught in the Chicago suburbs for several years working as a resource teacher. A few of the many things this job involved were assessing students referred for special education placement, differentiating and implementing instruction according to IEP goals, and managing individual student’s behavior plans. After leaving the Chicago area, she opened a tutoring center in St. Louis which serviced students of all ages. For the past 12 years Julie has been with us at McCallum Place as one of our first teachers. Her main goal here is to act as liaison between the patient and their school and to either modify a patient’s curriculum or use supplemental curriculum materials to meet the requirements of their home district. She also works with the therapists, dietitians, and psychiatrists to plan for how a patient’s eating disorder impacts their learning. Julie believes that providing an individualized program like the one here at McCallum Place is very important so that the patients can successfully transition back to school without losing any ground.
