Intake & Admissions Process for McCallum Place Eating Disorder Treatment Programs:

Free Eating Disorders Assessments! McCallum Place offers free eating disorder assessments either by phone or in person with our trained admissions clinicians. If you’ve been considering getting help, now may be a good time to move forward in your journey to recovery. Call Liz or Monique to schedule yours today at either 800-828-8158 or after business hours at 314-616-5256.  Assessments can generally be completed within 48 business hours, should this be necessary, and are performed during regular business hours, Monday through Friday.

McCallum Place specializes in the comprehensive treatment of eating disorders such as bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa, EDNOS, and binge eating disorder. Those in need of intensive treatment, structure and support in order to recover choose McCallum Place first. We serve males and females ages 12-50+ years.

Prior to admission, you will need to provide the following by fax or in person to an Admissions Clinician:

  1. Complete an admissions evaluation with  us, where we will review your past treatments, goals, and psychiatric history. This interview takes about one hour and will also give you an opportunity to decide if McCallum Place fits your needs. Simply call an Admissions Clinician at (314) 968-1900 to schedule one. McCallum Place offers FREE admissions evaluations!
  2. Blood work from within seven days of beginning treatment, including: Complete Blood Count (CBC), Complete Metabolic Panel (CMP), electrolytes, renal function tests, liver panel, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, protein, TB test, Hepatitis B screening, pregnancy test, and urinalysis. Download the Medical Form below and give to your PCP to coordinate completing the above. Fax results to 314-968-1901. We also have a Primary Care Physician, Dr. Caroline Rudnick, MD, on site to complete this, should you desire.
  3. An EKG twelve lead from within seven days of admission. Fax results to 314-968-1901. Our Primary Care Physician, Dr. Caroline Rudnick, MD, can complete this step on site, should you desire.
  4. A complete physical exam and medical history. Simply download and print off the form below and take to your physician. This physical exam should include a morning weight in gown, height, and postural vital signs. Fax results to 314-968-1901.
  5. Regarding Allergies: Please provide documentation of any known food and/or medication allergies should we need to prepare prior to admission.
  6. A Hepatitis A shot is recommended for those considering our transition house.
  7. Adolescents: Obtain your growth chart from your pediatrician and fax to us or bring upon admission.

We use the following criteria to determine whether treatment at McCallum Place may be suitable:

  • Those not making progress in outpatient treatment
  • Willing to accept care and eating disorder treatment voluntarily
  • Those who could benefit from group and or family treatment to supplement individual work
  • Patients with anorexia nervosa who require supported meals to make change
  • Patients needing a structured environment to restore weight
  • Patients who need support to challenge established food rituals and habits
  • Patients requiring tube supplements and do not have the autonomy to eat enough on their own
  • Patients with Bulimia, binge eating or purging, who are motivated to change but have been unable to do so without structured support
  • Patients who need supervision to prevent weight loss due to compulsive exercise strategies
  • Those in need of longer term treatment to stabilize recovery after short term residential or inpatient treatment

How soon can admission be arranged?

Generally, as soon as you or your loved one desires. Admission depends on a completed evaluation by a McCallum Place Admissions Specialist, simply call 800-828-8158 and ask for Liz or Monique to schedule one. We also will need you to obtain recent Labs and an EKG for our physician to review for all incoming patients. Please see above for specific items required prior to admission.

What is the typical length of stay at McCallum Place?

Patients stay an average of six weeks. Length of stay is determined based on patient need and is graduated according to his or her progress. Level of care is assessed many times throughout the week and adjusted accordingly if needed.

Will adolescents be accepted for treatment?

Yes! Our programs accommodate both adolescents age 12 and older and adults. Adolescent programming is modified to address their special developmental needs with a focus on family treatment. Adolescents who require intensive seven-day-a-week treatment may stay with their families. We also provide certified teachers and have built in times for tutoring while in treatment ensuring adolescents stay on track with school while in our treatment programming. Please obtain your growth chart from your pediatrician prior to admission for our medical and nutrition team.

Are there tutors to help with my school work?

Yes! Adolescents in Residential or PHP programming are provided with individual tutoring by licensed teachers four hours per week and built in time during treatment to complete homework assignments. There is no additional charge for this service.
